I'm first going to share another tip about how to make a 4-verse arrangement feel NOT too long. This first tip has to do with making the melody... which has now been presented 4 times... and which is in serious danger of becoming redundant in so many hearings without any contrasting sections... wonderful and just the right way to finish.

Do you ever get tired of using the same-old, same-old chords in your music? Do you ever wish you could find some new sounds that weren't so far out in left field that they didn't sound like you at all? I've got a couple chords for you today that I call "smoosh" chords, or "mash-up" chords. But, more important than the exact chords themselves is the concept beneath these chords.

One of the biggest challenges for any arranger of hymns for Sacrament Meeting is... attention span. As our meetings are not concerts, we want to be careful about how long our musical numbers are. And especially their pacing.
